New book: "Ensino e aprendizagem de língua portuguesa e cultura brasileira pelo mundo: Experiên

The VII EMEP – Encontro Mundial sobre o Ensino de Português had a surprise for the Portuguese instructors attending: “Ensino e aprendizagem de língua portuguesa e cultura brasileira pelo mundo: Experiências do Programa de Leitorado do Brasil”, a book by Portuguese instructors that participated in the Brazilian Programa de Leitorados teaching Portuguese and Brazilian Culture all over the world.
The book was organized by three of the former leitores, Bruna Morelo (Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, China), Everton Vargas da Costa (Harvard University), and Fernanda Farencena Kraemer (University of Pretoria, South Africa) and provides an exceptional insight into the experiences of leitores in the Czech Republic, Cabo Verde, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, Spain, United States, Italy, Mexico, Vietnam and São Tomé and Príncipe.

These experiences bring a unique contribution to the growing and innovative scholarly work about the teaching and learning of Portuguese all around the world. It maps real and possible networks and avenues for the increasing dissemination of the Portuguese language and Brazilian culture. Created in 1999, the Brazilian Programa de Leitorado is a partnership between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and CAPES (Coordination of Improvement of Higher Level Personnel) that funds instructors teaching Portuguese and Brazilian Culture in foreign universities. The experiences, methodologies and approaches presented in “Ensino e aprendizagem de língua portuguesa e cultura brasileira pelo mundo: Experiências do Programa de Leitorado do Brasil” are also a mapping of the public policies that are working and the ones that need strengthening for the optimization of this ambitious project.
